Pilcrow

A note from our founder

Why I started
Pilcrow

Hi Fellow writers! My name is Seah Kim and I am a highschool sophomore currently residing in the Bay Area. I love playing the viola, building forts with my little sister, and most of all, writing!

I came up with the idea for Pilcrow initially because writing should not be something that surfaces once in a rainy day like worms, waiting to be discovered – there are talented authors everywhere that deserve the chance to be recognized, and most importantly, to inspire – for is that not the purpose of literature?

I remember all the days I spent anxiously refreshing my email inbox or competition postings, hoping to see a glimpse of my name. I know many of my peers think the same – winning is proof that your work matters. But that shouldn’t be the case – writing should be something that is shared with the world, not kept underground or in draft files until some juror somewhere decides that it’s “worthwhile”. All writing is worthwhile, and so much more – and that is exactly what Pilcrow seeks to prove.

Here at Pilcrow, we pair your writing with teachers who are eager for something original and creative to give to their students. We strive to create an ecosystem where writers are able to receive their hard-earned appreciation while teachers are able to begin class with something strikingly new.

We hope you will embark on this journey with us, and help mold Pilcrow into the vision that it aims to reflect.
